CARSTAR NIGHT FEATURING TWO SPORTSMAN FEATURES UP NEXT AT SCOTIA SPEEDWORLD

(Halifax, NS – July 26, 2017) This Friday night Sportsman fans will have lots to celebrate on CARSTAR night which will feature not one, but two races for the Affordable Fuels & Metro Home Heating Sportsman, including the 23rd edition of the Shriner’s Classic. Joining the Sportsman on CARSTAR night are the Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros, Toursec Thunder, Pulse Heavy Duty Trucks and Strictly Hydraulics Legends. Racing action will get underway at 7:00PM.

The landscape of the Affordable Fuels and Metro Home Heating Sportsman championship chase is set to be shaken up this Friday night with two point paying races. Because qualifying was completed for the Shriner’s Classic on July 7th but the main feature was not run due to rain; as per procedure 5c the main feature for that event is held-over. Only cars which participated in the postponed date will be eligible for the held-over Shriner’s Classic. Later in the evening the Affordable Fuels Sportsman will return to the track for their regular 38 lap CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series race.

So it’s take three for the 23rd running of the Shriners Classic! Qualifying is set and drivers will be introduced to fans at 6:45pm as a special pre-race show at Scotia Speedworld. Drivers qualified for the show include two-time and defending event champion Russell Smith Jr (Lakeside), four-time event champion Jeff Dillman (Middle Musquodoboit), 2010 winner Colby Smith (Cape Sable Island), Phil Barkhouse Jr (Hammonds Plains) and NASCAR Pinty's Series and Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour competitor Josh Collins (Placentia, NL).

Jordan Veinotte (Porter's Lake) current leads the Sportsman championship standings by a slim 10 points over Travis Roma (West Chezzetcook) after three events. Only 18 points separate third to seventh in the standings, including Alex Johnson (Enfield), the most recent feature winner Matt Vaughan (Fletchers Lake), Chris Dingle (Elmsdale), Alex Painting (Stewiacke) and Brentley Pirri (Three Fathom Harbour) and Pictou County’s Joey Livingstone isn’t far behind those top seven.

Joining track announcer Tim Terry as co-host for the evening is Toursec Lightning driver "Rational" Richard Drake. Drake is a multi-time feature winner in the Lightning division and currently sits second in the standings after seven races.

Admission for CARSTAR night is just $15.00 for Adults; Youth (8-15) are $5.00 and children 7 and under are free…all summer long! Tickets are available at the gate on race day (cash only).
