Toursec 50 On Deck For
Thunder and Lightning divisions

(Halifax, NS. September 7, 2022) The Toursec Thunder & Lightning will take centre stage at Scotia Speedworld this week as they do battle for 50 grueling laps in the Toursec 50. Joining Atlantic Canada’s best four-cylinders are the Sunbelt Rentals Bandoleros, Strictly Hydraulics Legends and the Fleet Brake Atlantic Sportsman. Grandstand gates open at 5:00pm with CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series action slated for 7:00pm.

A test of driver and machine, the Toursec 50 is double the length of a regular Thunder or Lightning feature on a regular night at Scotia Speedworld. In the Toursec Lightning division, Colin Matthews (Bedford) has a comfortable lead over the two Chevrolets battling for the runner-up spot in points. Matthews, the reigning Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie of the Year, has a 34-point lead on Ross Moore (Lake Egmont) and 40 points on three-time feature winner Chad Sinton (Truro). Speaking of, the Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie of the Year battle in this class has been a back-and-forth affair between Chris McMullin (Elmsdale) and Kyle Sinton (Truro). McMullin, who has one feature win to his credit in 2022, leads by 12 points over Sinton. Seven drivers have feature wins this season with Kenny Hopper (Enfield) scoring a popular victory one week ago.

JJ MacPhee (Yarmouth) is hoping to make the long-haul game play off as he leads the Toursec Thunder standings by just seven points over Nic Baker (Middle Sackville). MacPhee experienced mechanical problems with his No. 94 TST Trucking Honda one week ago and will look to rebound this week. Baker will have a substitute driver in his car as he is away for work. “The Sheriff” Kyle Gammon (Mount Uniacke) is expected to return to the seat of a Thunder car this week in relief of Baker. Jason Pickles (Meagher’s Grant) is the most recent winner in the class.

Admission for the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series is $20 for adults, $5 for youth (8-15yrs), children seven and under are free all season at Scotia Speedworld! For complete schedule and event information please visit www.scotiaspeedworld.ca
