Smith JR Comes in Second
for National Award

In December it was announced that local favorites Shawn Tucker (Fredericton, New Brunswick) and Russell Smith Jr. (Lakeside, Nova Scotia) were nominated for the Inside Track Motorsport News Readers’ Choice Awards. Tucker, the 2010 Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Champion was up for the Canadian Stock Car Racer of the Year while Smith was in the running for the Up and Coming Canadian Stock Car Racer of the Year for his accomplishments at him home track of Scotia Speedworld and Riverside International Speedway. The results of over 10,000 votes were announced during January’s Canadian Motorsports Expo in Toronto, Ontario and our local boys came home second in their respective categories.

In the Canadian Stock Car Racer of the Year it was NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion DJ Kennington edging out Tucker for the award. Meanwhile, in the Up and Coming Canadian Racer of the Year category, Quebec racer Alex Labbe topped his peers with Smith in second. Congratulations go out to the two racers and the fans who voted for them, showing once again that we have some of the best racers in this great country!

The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour goes green on Sunday, May 22nd at Scotia Speedworld. Shawn Tucker will look to capture his third title in series history this season while the likes of Shawn Turple, John Flemming, Wayne Smith and Greg Proude among others will look to dethrone the champion. You can see Russell Smith Jr. at Scotia Speedworld on Friday nights during the summer as he attempts to win the coveted Weekly Racing Series Sportsman title in his rookie season in 2011. He will have some stiff competition in that bid though as he will race with the likes of 2010 champ Colby Smith, Mike Alexander, Jeff Dillman among the two dozen Sportsman competitors at the track for the overall crown. The action for the Weekly Racing Series heats up in May at Scotia Speedworld.

Until next time, keep the hammer down and we’ll see you at the track!
