August 16th: Strictly Hydraulics Night

Strictly Hydraulics Legends
While Braden Langille (Shubenacadie) went on to his fifth win of the Strictly Hydraulics Legend season, it was fireworks behind him that peaked interest of many of those watching Friday night’s INEX National Qualifier.

Langille took the lead just shy of halfway after a restart that saw front runners Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville) and Tylor Hawes (Porter’s Lake) charged with a no fault caution and sent to the back. Langille would work by Adam Meehan (Rawdon) for the point, one he would ultimately take to the finish of the 50-lap feature.

Behind, a disagreement on track between Meehan and Lively, which started prior to the No. 15 being charged with the caution at Lap 20. After Lively worked his way back into the top five in the closing laps, the pair resumed their battle with Meehan taking home second over Lively at the end of the race. Lively was quick to hop from his car in victory lane and the pair engaged in a heated discussion prior to being pulled away from each other by officials.

Hawes would race back to fourth place while Kody Quinn (Sydney, NS) backed up his podium finish during Toromont Cat 250 weekend with a fifth place run in the 17-car field.
Heat wins belonged to Meehan and Wyatt McCulloch (Stewiacke).

With nine races in the books, the top three in the Strictly Hydraulics Legends points are only separated by twenty points, with Lively leading Hawes and Langille.

SPORTSMAN
Deven Smith (Lakeside) showed why he is leading the Late Model Sportsman points at Scotia Speedworld by scoring his fifth victory of the season in the division.

Smith was able to use the aid of a Lap 20 restart to get by Wayne Miller (Kennetcook) to record his fourth regular season win. Smith started scratch on the 11 car field and when it appeared that Harry Ross White (Noel Road, driving for Jeffrey Breen) and Miller had checked out from the field, two yellow flags near the halfway point erased any lead the two veterans had on Smith.

Miller was solid all race long in only his second start of 2019. The 92X car held off reigning track champion Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) at the finish for the runner-up spot. Brentley Pirri (Three Fathom Harbour) and Alex Johnson (Enfield) completed the top five.

Smith picked up his heat race victory while Scott O’Neill (Oakfield) scored a popular win in his qualifier.

TOURSEC LIGHTNING
Chevy MacDonald (Stewiacke) waited ten years for Friday night.

MacDonald scored a huge win in the Toursec Lightning division. Not only was it at his home track, it was the first for a Chevrolet Cobalt in the Lightning division. MacDonald raced to the lead on the high side past Jamie Dillman (Lantz) with nine laps remaining in the 25-lap feature to secure the victory. Dillman raced with point leaders “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax) and Matthew Barkhouse (Dartmouth) for the runner-up spot,  with Dillman taking the spot on the inside line with Drake on the outside groove for third. Barkhouse came within a half car length of the podium, finishing fourth with sophomore Paige Drake (Halifax) coming home in fifth.

Marshall Bezanson (Oldham) and Bruce Larter (Halifax) picked up heat race victories.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDOLEROS
OUTLAWS

One week after making the score even between his fellow point contenders, Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) would take advantage.

Noble scored his third feature victory of the year in the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Outlaw division, the most of any on the season so far at Scotia Speedworld. Once again, Noble was dominant once he took the lead, pulling away from Nathan Langille (Coldbrook) in the middle stages of the race. Langille would finish second in the race, ahead of Dylan Dowe (Bedford), Canada East Outlaw point leader Danny Chisholm (Canning) and Nate Singer (Kennetcook).

Noble scored the heat win, securing maximum points on the night. He would ultimately take the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Outlaw point lead after the INEX National Qualifier after Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, substituting for Owen Mahar) crashed during the heat race and failed to start the main feature.

BANDITS
After four years and so many close calls, Chase MacKay (Bear Cove) is a feature winner at his home track.

MacKay held off a determined and hard charging Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction) for the win. At the line, MacKay’s No. 71 edged Christensen’s car by less than a car length. Dawson Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) returned following an elbow injury and did not miss a beat with a podium finish in third. Morgan Mosher (Mahone Bay) was fourth with point leader Gage Gilby (Enfield) coming home fifth after a mid-race spin.

Christensen picked up the heat victory.

The lead Gilby had on the field has been more than cut in half over the last two races. MacKay and Christensen sit 15 and 19 points, respectively, from the No. 25 car with nine races completed.

BEGINNER BANDOLEROS
Caden Tufts (Timberlea) picked up his second feature victory of the season in the Hydraulics Plus Beginner Bandoleros in a green-white-checkered finish to the 15-lap feature on INEX National Qualifier Night.

Tufts led the field to the final restart flanked by Chase Livingston (Springhill). The No. 88 was able to capitalize on the restart, bringing Miles MacKenzie (Porter’s Lake) along for the ride on the inside for second. Emily Chisholm (Antigonish), who rebounded from an earlier spin, was making the move for second on the last corner and looped the No. 89 coming to the checkered flag. It opened the door for Brett Pashkoski to make a late move, edging out Livingston at the line for third. Emma MacMillan (Noel) held on for fifth on the wild last corner.

Chisholm, who had eventual NASCAR Pinty’s Series Bumper to Bumper 300 winner Jason Hathaway cheering her on in the pit area, raced her way to the win in the heat race.
