WEEKLY RACING SERIES KICKS OF A NEW SEASON THIS SUNDAY

(Halifax, NS. May 22, 2013) Scotia Speedworld is ready to kick off their 26th season this Sunday with the Weekly Racing Series Season Opener presented by Live 105 FM. All six Weekly Racing Series divisions will see action on the oval this Sunday. Adult tickets are $12.00; Youth tickets (8-15 years) are just $2.00 and children 7 and under are admitted for free all season at Scotia Speedworld. Tickets will be available at the gate on race day. Grandstand gates open at 12:00 noon with qualifying for all six Weekly Racing Series divisions slated to get underway at 2:00 PM.

The Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman Series will highlight Sunday’s race card. Aaron Boutilier of Porter’s Lake is back to defend his 2012 championship. Quoted at the annual Test ‘n Tune on May 11th saying “I think I have a bit more than I did last year,” the other teams in the class will have to be on their game as they try to stop the #4 from repeating and becoming a back-to back champion of the premier class in the Weekly Racing Series.

New branding and new faces highlight the Coors Light Truck division in 2013. While not new to racing, Larry Vaughan (Lake Fletcher) will highlight first-time Truck drivers in the class with former four cylinder drivers Robbie Watts (Lucasville), Jamie Creamer (Spryfield), and Chris Smith (Brookfield) looking to make a splash this season. Cory Leonard (Halifax) and Chris Ainsworth (Halifax) are also new names to the class. This field will be keeping a close eye on 2012 champion Dan Smith of Lower Sackville.

The Strictly Hydraulics Legends have seen youth movement take over in the last few years with Cole Butcher of Porter’s Lake in the #5 car taking the title one season ago. While he is expected to defend in 2013, he will have his hands full with that task. Look no further than last week’s Maritime League of Legends Tour race to find stiff competition for him in the way of winner Justin MacNeill (Bedford), Matt Moore (Falmouth), “Miss Rawdon Rocket” Emily Meehan, Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport) and Scott Cunning (Halifax). These little giants will put on 25-laps of action on Sunday.

The ACE Lumbermart Thunder and Lightning divisions have boasted “the BEST Four Cylinder drivers in Atlantic Canada” for years and a lot of familiar faces are back behind the wheel for another season. Kyle MacMillan (Hammonds Plains) and Jorden Smith (Lakeside) are both looking to defend their championship titles but will have dozens of drivers to compete with in order to win the coveted crowns this season.

The young guns of Scotia Speedworld will also be ready for another season of close quarter racing as the Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros gear up for their eighth season at Scotia Speedworld. While Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake) has moved on from the class, it opens the door for a first-time track champion at Scotia Speedworld. Braden Langille and Cole Tanner, both from Shubenacadie, have raced a fair bit this year already when you include a week of racing in Florida and will look to translate that success to their home turf. Adam Meehan (Rawdon) and Luke Ettinger (Kennetcook) will also look to bring home their first Scotia Speedworld championship hardware as veterans of the division this season.

The Weekly Racing Series will take the following weekend off as Scotia Speedworld hosts Maple Leaf Monster Jam on June 1st and 2nd. The Weekly Racing Series will return to its usual 7:00 PM time slot on Friday nights starting on June 7th and will run every Friday night following for the remainder of the season. If you’re planning on attending Monster Jam be sure to hang onto your ticket stub and you can catch the Weekly Racing Series on Friday, June 7th for just $5.00!
