Eddy To Race In NASCAR WAAS In 2010

(March 1, 2010, Halifax, NS) The NASCAR Whelen All American Series is about to get a shot of red and white courtesy of Lower Sackville's Brad Eddy.

The 2009 Sojourn Signs Bandolero champ is on “The Drive to NASCAR,” as he along with his father Dan unrolled the plans on Monday morning. The fifteen year old will see his schedule open in April and will include twelve to sixteen races south of the border in a NASCAR-sanctioned Late Model at the Hickory Motor Speedway and the Tri-County Speedway (North Carolina). Races on the Maritime League of Legends Tour along with the Triple Crown events of Maritime Pro Stock racing will round out his schedule on the 2010 campaign with one of the goals in mind being to get seat time behind the wheel.

The season will be watched closely by the folks from the Joe Gibbs Racing organization. Following the 2008 season in which Eddy scored the Canadian INEX National Bandolero crown, the family traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina to accept the trophy. During the trip there was a phone call made to Norm Miller, CEO of Interstate Batteries. “I met Norm on a business trip and in the end he gave me his business card saying “if you ever need a favor, just give me a call,” Dan Eddy told the crowd on Monday. “I wanted to use that call a few times but used it when Brad and I were down in Charlotte and I asked Norm to pass on Brad's resume to Joe Gibbs Racing.” Fifteen minutes later the elder Eddy had an email from Steve de Souza, the Vice President of JGR. Meetings between the two parties took place which resulted in the suggestion for Brad's 2010 schedule which was laid out on Monday.

One word mentioned throughout the presentation held at the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame was commitment. The Maritime racing community has seen Eddy's commitment to the sport in the recent years which has paid off in numerous wins but with the big jump to a 450 horsepower NASCAR Late Model comes a whole new side of the word. Eddy has hit the gym to gain the extra strength needed to muscle one of the high powered stock cars around a short track the likes of Tri-County (4/10-mile oval) and Hickory (.363 mile oval).

Eddy is looking forward to stepping into a higher powered car than he has previously raced. “I'm excited for the opportunity,” said one of the original Bandolero drivers to hit the Scotia Speedworld oval back in 2006. Fans will also notice a number change when Brad is racing down south, one which was previously displayed on the side of a legendary Canadian driver, Junior Hanley. “When they asked me what number I wanted to race I had asked for one of two numbers. The first selection was number twenty-eight (in honor of Cale Yarborough) and the second was seventy-two (in honor of Junior Hanley and Benny Parsons).” The number seventy-two was approved by the NASCAR sanctioning body meaning Eddy will carry the number previously ran by his racing heroes, including his father. “Dad had said after I selected it that “I ran that number before!” Oh, you did?” Brad had ran the number one on his championship winning Bandolero car which was the same number raced for many years by Dan on the local Pro Stock circuit.

The family also thanked another Maritime racing legend for support of Brad's racing efforts. “Rollie MacDonald. Rollie has been very supportive of what we've done and we couldn't have got to this point without his help,” said Dan of the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Famer. Brad also thanked his family and racing peers for the support in the last few years. The team is also actively seeking sponsors to help offset the costs of the venture to get the Maritimer into the limelight down in the racing heartland of North Carolina.

Those who have watched Brad race over the recent years have seen his smooth and consistent driving style which has paid off by setting records for wins in the Bandolero class. We wish Brad all the best on his drive to become “Canada's Next Greatest Driver!”
