Report Card Night, July 2nd
HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDOLEROS CASEY DOUBLES DOWN, GAINS GROUND ON LEADERS
After a rough outing on Kiddie Night, Prospect Road’s D.J. Casey rebounded to take the heat and feature wins on Report Card Night. Casey, who has scored two feature wins already this season at Speedway 660 has now recorded his first 2010 feature win at the Speedworld on Friday. “Miss Rawdon Rocket” Emily Meehan gained a point on her nearest point competitor Cole Butcher (Porter’s Lake) by besting him for second place behind Casey. Completing the top five on Friday night was Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake) and leading rookie Luke Ettinger (Kennetcook), who rebounded from a wreck which saw Ettinger’s Bandolero car look more like a mini-open wheel modified at the end of the fifteen lap event.
Casey shared heat race win honors with Braden Langille. The Bandoleros, presented by Hydraulics Plus will be on track this Saturday night for Scotia Speedworld’s first Saturday Night Special of 2010!
TRUCKS LINDSAY BECOMES FIRST REPEAT FEATURE WINNER
Curtis Lindsay of Enfield was the driver who took the historic first win in the new in 2010 Truck class at Scotia Speedworld and now the driver of truck #08 can add another accomplishment to his resume. Lindsay took the twenty-lap feature win on Friday as part of Report Card Night and with that victory became the first driver to win two features in the class! It wasn’t easy though as Lindsay had to hold off numerous charges from ’09 Hobby titlist Gordon Ritchie. The two drivers spent many of the late laps battling side-by-side with Lindsay getting a great run off the final corner to charge to victory over the Antrim driver. Vernon Brown (Antrim) brought his #80 truck home in third followed by JP Arsenault (Church Point) and Dan Smith (Lower Sackville).
The heat win earlier in the evening went to Gordon Ritchie and his #26 Ritchie’s Renovations ride. The Trucks will be part of this weekend’s Saturday Night Special as Curtis Lindsay will attempt to become the division’s first three time feature winner!
TIRECRAFT LIGHTNING
SMITH’S THIRD DOUBLE DOWN COMES ON REPORT CARD NGHT
IFor the third time so far this season, Russell Smith Jr. piloted his #144 B&D Welders Neon to victory in the Tirecraft Lightning main feature. The Lakeside driver once again caught Nick Hurshman (Lakeside) in lapped traffic which presented the opportunity for the ’06 champ to navigate around the traffic and the third year Lightning driver for the triumph. As was the case with the Inside Track Shootout, Hurshman had to settle for second in his #145 Bernie’s Drywall and Service Neon in front of the #199 of Craig Cordeau, who pulled off his best main feature finish of third in the event. Rounding out the top five in the event was Carroll’s Corner drivers Jamie Dillman and Holly Geldart.
Russell Smith Jr. and Craig Cordeau were both victorious in the heat races. The Lightning cars have the week off before they attack the track on Twins Night for their first of two fifty lap features of the season!
LEGENDS THE LEGEND DOUBLES DOWN ON REPORT CARD NIGHT
In a main feature that went wire-to-wire caution free, Cy Harvey from Elmsdale doubled down en route to the victory in the twenty-five lap main event. Harvey positioned his #37 Harvey Racing Legend at the front and held off the #98 Jerry Austin Auto Sales ride driven by Jerry Austin for the top spot. Steve Pye (Lantz) started at the rear and made a furious charge towards the front but ran out of time and had to settle for third, leading Matt Moore (Falmouth) and rookie Derek MacCallum (Lower Sackville) across the line in the top five.
Harvey, Moncton, New Brunswick’s Gary Bursey and Bedford’s Justin MacNeill brought home ten lap heat wins. With the event in the books it will give Steve Pye an eight point advantage heading into the Saturday Night Special.
SPORTSMAN BUTLER SCORES FIRST SPORTSMAN VICTORY
Twenty-three of the fastest Sportsman cars in the Maritimes battled it out on Report Card Night for the win in the 30-lap main feature and after all the dust was settled and the smoke cleared it was former Hobby Stock champion Kyle Butler (Lake Egmont) driving his #5 Halifax Glass and Mirror Chevrolet Impala to victory! Butler, who scored the double down on Friday drove his #5 to his first ever feature victory in the division by holding off point leader Steve Ross (Waverley) and veteran Aaron Boutilier (Porter’s Lake). After a heat race accident, Boutilier’s car was missing a few front body panels but the seasoned driver got up on the wheel to record his second podium finish of 2010. Rookie Mike Alexander (Cole Harbour) drove his Chebucto Ford/R&R Kinsman Auto Salvage Ford to a fourth place finish in the feature event followed by fourth year Sportsman driver Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) in fifth.
Heat wins on the evening belonged to Williamswood’s Scott Thibodeau, Enfield’s Kirk Ryan and Butler. The top Weekly Racing Series class at Scotia Speedworld will be back in action Saturday as part of the Saturday Night Special!
