Fan Appreciation Night, August 13th
SPORTSMAN DIVISION SMITH SCORES SECOND CONSECUTIVE WIN
For the second week in a row it was Colby Smith making a late pass en route to scoring maximum points with a double down at the Speedworld. Smith from Cape Sable Island piloted his Harlow’s Construction, Mood’s Transport, Smith and Watt Ltd. Chevrolet Impala to the lead late, passing veteran Harry Ross White (Noel Road) for the victory. HOSS held off 2009 champ Jeff Dillman (Middle Musquodoboit), Aaron Boutilier (Porter’s Lake) and rookie Mike Alexander (Cole Harbour) inside the top five.
The race was dominated early by Halifax’s Tony Leonard. Leonard led half the race before the car sputtered exiting turn two just shy of ten laps to go and came to a rest on pit road. Leonard would win his heat race in the #74 Leonard’s Towing Camry, joining the #11 Century 21 Harvey Slade Ford Fusion of Jordan Veinotte as a heat race winner. The top Weekly division at Scotia Speedworld will be on track this Friday for another 30-lap feature!
TRUCK DIVISION FOURTH WIN FOR LINDSAY IN TRUCKS
Curtis Lindsay continues to rack up the trophies in the 2010 season as he took his fourth feature win of the season on Fan Appreciation Night. Lindsay (Enfield) took the victory over a fantastic battle that happened for second, which was won by JP Arsenault (Church Point). Arsenault battled it out on track with the Ritchie brothers, which saw lots of black, white and orange paint being swapped. Vernon Brown (Antrim) brought his Allstar Ventilation ride home in third followed by the Ritchies, Gordon (Antrim) and Wayne (Stewiacke).
Arsenault took the ten lap heat race, which saw the debut of the #3 truck piloted by Eastern Passage’s Jason Fenton. Trucks are on the track this Friday night as part of Media Night!
LEGENDS DIVISION
COX COMES HOME WITH FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT VICTORY
Ray Cox Jr. brought his #55 Horne Interior/Kirk Heating Limited Legend car home in first place on Friday at Fan Appreciation Night. The Porter’s Lake driver survived through a late race restart and held off former champ Justin MacNeill (Bedford) and current point leader Paul Blenkhorn (Truro) for the victory. “The Legend” Cy Harvey (Enfield) and Bruce Johnson (Truro) completed the top five in the 25-lap main feature, which included a scary incident involving Mitchell Devison. He would emerge from his #77 ride okay following a roll-over over the bank in turn 3.
Heat races were taken away by MacNeill and Bedford’s Ed Hayden. The Legends are on the track twice this coming weekend – Friday night for the Weekly Racing Series and Saturday for the Maritime League of Legends 50-lap main feature!
TIRECRAFT THUNDER WARREN SCORES FIRST FEATURE WIN
After many long weeks of trying, Matthew Warren of White’s Lake can finally call himself a main feature winner at Scotia Speedworld. Warren and Kyle MacMillan of Hammonds Plains battled it out in the early stages of the feature with Warren taking control before the halfway mark and pulled away from the veteran Thunder division driver to take the convincing win in his #31 Markland Associates Honda Civic. MacMillan held on for second in the caution free affair while a hard charging Dave Matthews of Kennetcook came in third following a late race pass on fourth place driver Jordan Pirri (West Chezzetcook). Tylor Hawes (Porter’s Lake) bested Stevie Lively (Shubenacadie) for the final top five position and a huge two championship points.
Heat races were won by Jordan Pirri and MacMillan. Speaking of heats, based on his heat race finish, Hawes will retake the point lead with two races to go over Lively. Ross Harvie (Kennetcook) and Andrew Warren (White’s Lake) are your “fast four” in the division and find themselves twenty-three points or less within a championship this season.
HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDOLERO IT’S #5 FOR #5’S BUTCHER
Cole Butcher (Porter’s Lake) is on a mission this season. The veteran driver piloted his #5 Atlantic Tiltload/Hope for Wildlife Bandolero car to his fifth feature win of the season, gaining five more points in the hunt for the 2010 championship. DJ Casey (Prospect Road) finished second while “Miss Rawdon Rocket” Emily Meehan took third in the feature over Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake) and Luke Ettinger (Kennetcook).
Ettinger scored a popular heat race win to kick off the evening while Jarrett Butcher got the nod in the other heat. Cole Butcher’s point lead is now ten markers on Meehan as the Young Guns of the Speedworld head into Media Night.
Until then, keep the hammer down and we’ll see you at the track!
