The Shriner’s Classic returns to Scotia Speedworld this Friday!(Halifax, NS, July 29, 2009) Scotia Speedworld’s Weekly Racing Series continues this Friday, July 31st with the ever popular Shiner’s Classic. This week’s featured 5 divisions include; Sojourn Signs Bandoleros, Miller Tire Thunders, Legends, Lockhart Truck Center Hobby Stocks, and the C&R Auto Supply Sportsmen. Racing is set to start at 7:00pm, main gates open at 5:00pm and the Strictly Hydraulics pits open at 4:00pm. It will be the C&R Auto Supply Sportsman Division that will compete in the 15th Annual Shriner’s Classic this Friday night at Scotia Speedworld with former champions Terry Roma (’97, ’04, ’05) and defending champion of the race Harry Ross White (’00, ’08) trying to fend off the rest of the field. With the names like Slaunwhite (Troy and Craig), Tibert (Ron and Mel), Gordie Ryan, Tony Leonard, James Graves and Sheldon Pemberton on the past champs list, the Classic is one of the biggest races on the C&R Auto Supply Sportsman schedule. About the Shriners The Shriners are the sellers - and co-benefactors - of the 50/50 draws that take place at every Scotia Speedworld event. Since the Shriners started selling 50/50 tickets at Scotia Speedworld in 1998 more than $120,500 has been generated through those sales to benefit their cause. Another $65,000 has been donated by Scotia Speedworld to the Remedial Seating Program at the Occupational Therapy Department of the IWK, and the remaining $65,000 has been taken home by lucky fans. Shriners of North America support Shriners Hospitals for Children, a one-of-a-kind international health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research, and outstanding teaching programs. Since 1922, Shriners Hospitals for Children have significantly improved the lives of more than 865,000 children. Admission for the Weekly Racing Series is $12.00 for adults; $2.00 for youth aged 8-15; children 7 and under are admitted free. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $15.00 and restricted to those 16 and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. SSW is the only venue in Nova Scotia to host a weekly racing series, which runs May through September and features six different classes of racecars.
