Race Report - Bike Night

Finally, Mother Nature gave us a beautiful night of racing to contest features in five of our Weekly Racing Series divisions with the Lockhart Truck Center Hobby Stocks being off – but they will be here this coming Friday as part of the Miller Tire Triple 50’s night!

The fans were treated to a great show of Motorcycles in the pre-race as they made laps in the parade before the racing action. A big thanks goes out to Earl Keeping and all the bikers who showed up with their machines to Scotia Speedworld!

SOJOURN SIGNS BANDOLERO DIVISION

He came so close in the last two main features to parading the checkered flag around Scotia Speedworld but Prospect Road’s DJ Casey was not going to be denied the privilege on Bike Night at Scotia Speedworld as he took the win in the 15-lap main feature for the Bandoleros! Casey was chased down by ’07 track champ Shelby Baker (Fall River) as the two raced away from the rest of the field. Cole Butcher (Porter’s Lake) had a solid run in his #5 Atlantic Tiltload Bandolero car as he placed third in front of defending champ Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro) and point leader Brad Eddy of Lower Sackville, who had to come from the back of the field at the halfway point in the feature to finish fifth.

Casey wasn’t the only crowd favorite to take victory on Friday night as “Miss Rawdon Rocket” Emily Meehan won her heat race following a tough battle with Brad Bevan (Sackville) and Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake). Blenkhorn took the second heat race in the battle of the high point drivers. The Sojourn Signs Bandoleros will be on track this Friday as the undercard to the Miller Tire Triple 50’s!

MILLER TIRE LIGHTNING DIVISION

Last week it was the veterans of the Miller Tire Lightning division showing the young guns how it was done. This week it was the exact opposite as Timberlea’s Trevor Smith won his second race of the year in just his fourth start! The #133 Oval Outlaw Racing Neon had to hold off his cousin and fellow rookie Jorden Smith (Lakeside) in the event as the two looked to have the field covered in the 15-lap feature. Defending champ Andrew Starks (Truro) finally shook the bad luck from his #104 Cavalier and finished 3rd on the evening, leading Jamie Dillman and Kevin Robar (Sackville) to the line.

The Smith cousins, Trevor and Jorden, shared the heat wins on the evening. Trevor, along with brothers Russell Jr., and Jorden will attempt to sweep the top three positions this week during the Miller Tire 50 for the Lightning cars but there is a field of hungry drivers that want to see different. Can Russell Jr., defend the Miller Tire 50 crown that he won last year? We will find out Friday night at Scotia Speedworld!

MILLER TIRE THUNDER DIVISION

In a field that saw 36-cars attempt to qualify for 25 spots in the main feature in the Miller Tire Thunder division, the action was intense in qualifying. Former Riverside Speedway standout Scott Williams (Middle Sackville), motocross turned stock car driver Brentley Pirri (Three Fathom Harbour) and two-time ’09 feature winner Kyle Gammon (Middle Sackville) all put their Civics in front of the three ten lap heat races to take victory while some drivers had to make their way into the 20-lap main event through the “B” Feature. The action packed “B” feature would be won by Justin Shore, who put his LaChance Signs #06 in front of a close field of competition after ten laps, besting Antigonish County’s Dan Delorey for the win. Matt Scott (East Dover) edged out Glen Haven’s Jon Bonin in a photo finish for third and fourth in the event as Matthew Warren finished fifth in the event.

That was just qualifying – the main feature also gave us some awesome racing. Following a few early cautions, the best four cylinder drivers in the Maritimes put on a show for the fans in attendance for Bike Night! Those fans were treated to an amazing three wide battle for the lead featuring Gammon, Kevin Clark Jr. and Derek MacCallum (Lower Sackville). Gammon beat his competitors on track but after post race inspection, the race was awarded to Derek MacCallum and his #16 True North Diner Civic! Clark finished second in front of Tyler Hawes (Porter’s Lake), Scott O’Neill (Enfield) and Brentley Pirri.

MacCallum is the defending champ of the Miller Tire 50, can he repeat this week? Be there Friday for Miller Tire Night to find out!

LEGENDS DIVISION

After a fog out last week, the Legends racing in the Weekly Racing Series took to the track Friday night under ideal (and dry) conditions for racing! This week brought another week of clean and close racing up front as Scott MacLean (Pictou) claimed another win in his Maritime Auto Supply #61 Legend car! Scott had to be on his toes though as he had a great battle with top five finishers Ed Hayden (Bedford), Justin MacNeill (Bedford), Ray Cox Jr. (Porter’s Lake) and Matt Moore (Falmouth). The Legends racing has been super exciting the last few weeks and we expect the same in two weeks as they will have an off week this Friday night!

Heat wins on Bike Night went to Hayden and Jeff Atkinson (Port LaTour). It is a great triumph for Atkinson as it was his first checkered flag for his #15 Joel Smith Fisheries Legend car since he barrel-rolled down the front straightaway during the Maritime Legends Tour 50 lapper in May! Cox Jr., has a mere five point advantage on Moore and only seven markers on MacLean as they head into AMP Energy Night in two weeks!

C&R AUTO SUPPLY SPORTSMAN DIVISION

After an off-week, the high powered Sportsman cars were ready to attack the track in their 25-lap main feature. In the end, it was veteran and fan favorite Frankie Fraser (Shubenacadie) doubling down, taking the win in his heat and the main feature on Bike Night. Fraser’s strong #0 Halifax Glass and Mirror Chevrolet topped the Ford Fusion of Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake), who had a solid run in his Veinotte’s Truck and Auto #11. Third, second and first in points following the event finished 3rd, 4th and 5th in the main as Terry Roma (Chezzetcook), Steve Ross (Waverly) and Darren Wallage (Oakfield) posted solid runs.

Fraser ran from the back of his 10-car heat to win in the first qualifying race as Leonard Boutilier took his Canadian Tire Impala to the top during the second heat race. The C&R Auto Supply Sportsman cars return to the track on AMP Energy Night in two weeks at Scotia Speedworld to resume a tight point battle and continue the close competition on the racetrack we are treated to every time the Sportsman cars are on track at Scotia Speedworld!

This week Scotia Speedworld brings you the Miller Tire Triple 50 night. Not one, not two but THREE 50 lap main features will be run in the Miller Tire Lightning, Miller Tire Thunder and Lockhart Truck Center Hobby Stocks divisions on Friday night. The Sojourn Signs Bandolero division will join them for their 15-lap feature to support the Triple 50’s. It’s all here – at ScotiaSpeedworld.ca!

Until Friday, keep the hammer down and we’ll see you at the track!
