RACE REPORT: LOCKHART TRUCK CENTER NIGHT

Once again the drivers of the Scotia Speedworld Weekly Racing Series put on a great show in front of a crowd which enjoyed some great late summer weather. If you missed it, here is what went down!

LOCKHART TRUCK CENTER HOBBY STOCKS

In the main event on Friday night the fans were treated to a fine Hobby Stock 25-lap event. The positions up front changed hands many times during the main feature presented by Lockhart Truck Center but in the end it was Enfield’s Bug Turple holding off the field and doubling down on Lockhart night. Turple had to fend off challenges from two time champ Mark Wilson (Lantz), the Ritchies – Gordon (Antrim) and Wayne (Coldstream) – along with Wally MacCullough for the win! Turple thanked the Watson’s for preparing the #99 Watson’s Flooring entry which he drove to Victory Lane. “Without the Watson’s letting me use this equipment, I wouldn’t be here right now.” Turple said from victory lane. “That thing is so fast!”

Turple won his heat race while Stewiacke’s Ben Sheehy won the other heat race. The race also feature Hobby Stock veteran Ronnie Moore (Shubenacadie) stepping in the #40 Sangster’s Capri for his son Terry. He finished eighth in the main. Gordon gained a few points on brother Wayne to extend his lead to fourteen points. It’s gonna be a fight to the finish in the points – don’t miss the next event for the Hobby Stock boys this Friday night at Scotia Speedworld!

LEGENDS

It looked like rookie driver Vince MacLellan (Truro) was going to double down on Lockhart Truck Center night after winning his heat and leading a big chunk of the main feature. In the end though, it wasn’t to be as an incident claimed the feature chances of MacLellan just a few laps shy of the finish. After MacLellan exited the feature, it left us with a spirited battle between Ed Hayden (Bedford), Steve Pye (Lantz), and “The Legend” Cy Harvey (Elmsdale) with Pye coming out on top for the second consecutive week to pull out the win! Hayden finished a close second with car #8 as Harvey held off Scott MacLean (Pictou) and Justin MacNeill (Bedford), who charged hard from the rear of the field mid-way through the race, for position.

MacLellan and Port LaTour’s Jeff Atkinson won the heat races. With six drivers within fifty-one points of standings leader Scott MacLean, anything could happen on finale night as the Legends have the night off this Friday to prepare for the annual Maritime Legends Tour romp at Speedway 660 as part of Peterbilt 250 festivities this Sunday! Tickets for finale weekend are available now at TicketAtlantic.com!

SOJOURN SIGNS BANDOLEROS

You would think after a few weeks down south racing his #24 Scotia Hyundai Bandolero that Ryan Mackintosh might be a bit tired and take it easy on the rest of the Sojourn Signs Bandolero class. Then again if you think that, you must not know Mackintosh very well as he picked up where he left off last Wednesday at Waterford Speedbowl in Connecticut: in Victory Lane! Mackintosh doubled down on Friday night at his home track of Scotia Speedworld by winning his heat and the feature by holding off point leader Brad Eddy (Lower Sackville) on a late restart of the main feature. Eddy had pressure behind him from defending track champ Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro), Cole Butcher (Porters Lake) and DJ Casey (Prospect Rd.).

Mackintosh rolled out his new colors at Scotia on Friday with a bang by winning his heat, sharing heat race glory with Dartmouth’s “Too Quick” Nick McCarthy. The Bandolero point chase is still tight, with only ten points separating Eddy from Casey on top of the standings. The boys and girl of the Sojourn Signs Bandolero class go green again this Friday night!

MILLER TIRE LIGHTNING

Once again the Lightning drivers put down a memorable show for the fans on Lockhart Truck Center Night as Trevor Smith (Timberlea) scored another victory in his rookie season in the 20-lap main feature! Smith tallied his fourth feature win this season holding off series point leader Dan Michaud Jr. (Cole Harbour) and Nick Hurshman (Lakeside) in a battle of the Neons. Former champ Russell Smith Jr. (Lakeside) and Dan Smith (Sackville) rounded out the top five on the evening, which featured the door to door and fender to fender racing we are accustomed to in the Lightning class!

Heat wins went to series vet Brian Parrott (Beaverbank) and Michaud Jr. With two to go, Michaud Jr has extended his lead to forty points over Russell Smith Jr., but as we know anything can happen when there are points and victories on the line. What will happen next? Be there on Kiddie Night this Friday to find out!

MILLER TIRE THUNDER

Through a rash of cautions at the start of the race, the best four-cylinder drivers in Atlantic Canada emerged out of their 25-lap feature with another face who hasn’t visited Victory Lane in a main feature at Scotia Speedworld in over three years. Northern Beaverbank’s Tim Tanner drove his #89 May Garden/Pothier Motors Honda Civic to victory in a race with over 27 cars which featured numerous restarts to get past the lap ten mark. Tanner was chased by “Boulton Racing Team” drivers Kyle Gammon (Middle Sackville) and Derek MacCallum (Lower Sackville) to the finish. The race showcased MacCallum’s talent as he was three quarters of a lap down and under caution got the problems plaguing the #16 fixed to rally back to third. Hammonds Plains’ Kyle MacMillan scored his best ever finish at Scotia with a fourth place run, beating Tylor Hawes (Porters Lake) to the line to take the position.

MacMillan, Matthew Warren and last week’s feature winner Robbie Watts (Lucasville) took the heat wins away. Watts was on a tear to the front of the field in the feature before the #55 Fans Chinese Restaurant Honda ended up having problems, forcing him to the pits before the halfway mark. The feature win was Tanner’s first in Nova Scotia this season as he had won a 35-lap invitational event at the Centre for Speed outside Shediac, N.B. earlier this summer. With Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) having motor problems in the feature, Derek MacCallum will have a big lead heading into the final two events, but that doesn’t mean the title is signed, sealed and delivered just yet. Be there Friday to see the next chapter unfold in the Miller Tire Thunder class!

The ever popular Kiddie Rides take center stage this Friday night at Scotia Speedworld. They will kick off the show at 7pm, followed by racing in the Sojourn Signs Bandolero, Miller Tire Thunder and Lightning, Lockhart Truck Center Hobby Stock and C&R Auto Supply Sportsman classes as they vie for pivotal positions in the second last point race for the divisions! We hope you can join us this Friday night at the racetrack!

Until Friday, keep the hammer down and we’ll see you at the track!
