FRASER, GRAVES WIN C&R AUTO SUPPLY 250

HALIFAX, NS (September 27, Updated October 1) - It was Scott Fraser and James Graves visiting victory lane in the inaugural C&R Auto Supply 250 at Scotia Speedworld. Fraser (Shubenacadie) was the victor of the 150-lap pro stock segment of the race and Graves (Berwick) the victor in the 100-lap sportsman segment.

Both races had the fans on their feet in the closing laps but it was Fraser's win over Gordie Ryan (Wellington) by mere inches that had the crowd waiting for the official call from the tower. Ryan had led the race from lap 20 to 149. Fraser led just one lap: number 150. Fraser's march to the front in his No. 0 King Freight Lines Monte Carlo came in the last 37 laps of the race as he came from the back of the pack for the third time.

The first time he went to the back was by choice as he accepted the Forbes Chev Olds Pole Challenge for a shot at as much as a $1,400 bonus if he won the race - which he will collect in addition to the $4,000 first prize. The second and third times he went to rear after altercations with other racecars. Fraser made a pit stop before his final charge to the front, changing the outside tires from the set he started on to the set he finished his last race at Scotia Speedworld with - which he also won - on September 6.

Donald Chisholm (Antigonish) turned in another late season strong run with a third place finish. Mike MacKenzie (Dartmouth) and Dan MacKay (Halifax) rounded out the top five in the pro stock division.

Graves started on the pole for the 100 lap sportsman feature but swapped the lead several times with other drivers among the 45 entries for the race. Graves won by less than one car length over second and third place finishers Sheldon Pemberton (Dartmouth) and Troy Slauenwhite (Terrance Bay). Dan Harvey (Halifax) and Todd Tufts (Timberlea) rounded out the top five.

Robert Tufts (Timberlea) accepted the Atlantic Tiltload Pole Challenge for the sportsman race but had mechanical troubles. He picked up a $120 bonus before breaking. Graves will get the Ledwidge Lumber Halfway Award ($100) in addition to the $1,000 first prize.

The first round of qualifying for both divisions, the Sunbury Transport Time Trials, saw Mike MacKenzie (Dartmouth) turn the fastest pro stock lap and Graves turn the fastest sportsman lap.

Dodge SRT-4 Qualifying Race winners in the pro stock division were George Koszkulics (New Glasgow), Dave O'Blenis (Battle Creek, NB) and Tim Rodgers (Coverdale, NB). Sportsman winners were Graves, Brian Jollimore (Spryfield), Harvey, Todd Tufts, Laurie Cormier (Moncton, NB) and Jackie Tanner (Shubenacadie).
