TIM’S CORNER - Scotia Speedworld Awards Banquet Wrap-Up

Did you miss the Scotia Speedworld Banquet this past Saturday? If so, you missed the annual get together that caps off the season in style. Like last year, here are some of the stories from the Banquet, in bullet form.

Before we push on, if you’re interested in who won what, here is a recap.

NOTE: Finishing position trophies can be found on the Scotia Speedworld Point Standings page. Trophies were handed out to those who participated in 80% of the races in their respective division.

MARITIME LEAGUE OF LEGENDS TOUR
Rookie of the Year: Emily Meehan, Rawdon

HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDOLERO
Rookie of the Year: Cole Tanner, Shubenacadie

DARTMOUTH DODGE SPORTSMAN SERIES
Rookie of the Year: Russell Smith Jr, Lakeside
Easiest Car to Score: Chris Dingle, Elmsdale
Most Sportsmanlike Driver: Jeff Dillman, Middle Musquodoboit
Champion: Jeff Dillman, Middle Musquodoboit

Cole Tanner (Outlaw) and Luke Ettinger (Bandits) have won their respective INEX Canadian Bandolero championships for 2011. They will accept their hardware in Concord, North Carolina in January as apart of the INEX Banquet and if all goes according to plan, they will showcase their skills on the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course in Bandolero cars when they make the trek.

Jeff Dillman has told me he has purchased a Pro Stock car and plans to run the Pro Stock on at least a part-time basis in 2012. His championship car is currently up for sale.

Brothers Matthew and Andrew Warren have purchased a Legend car and the two plan on splitting time in the Coco Beach Legend car division. The two would qualify for the Rookie of the Year Award in the class which was won by Dan Michaud Jr in 2011. Michaud plans on running a full slate next season in his sophomore year which will include the Maritime League of Legends Tour.

Paul Blenkhorn told me on Saturday night that he will return to the Legend ranks to vie for his second championship in three years in each respective rank. He mentioned the plans for Dylan are currently undecided yet, but could include anything from a Legend car, a Sportsman or even a Pro Stock.

Kenny Hopper is going with “the Iceman” look for 2012. The Lumbermart Lightning car veteran says he will change schemes to resemble Terry Labonte’s #44 from the last year he ran with Rick Hendrick in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Was great to see Dan Smith at the 2011 Awards Banquet. Dan is still sore from the vicious wreck that took him out of contention for the championship in September but has purchased another race truck for the 2012 season and will be vying for the championship next season.

Harry Breimer Jr is planning on running select Legend races in the 2012 season. Though he is not quite sure what he’ll run or how many he’ll race, Briemer has taken laps in a Legend car with tutelage from Tony Gaudet Jr.

As mentioned previously, Tyler Hallahan will move up to the Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman series to compete for the Debbie Hallahan Memorial Rookie of the Year Award, named for Tyler’s late Aunt. He is expected to battle against Steve Pye and possibly Scott O’Neill for the honor.

Those are just some of the tidbits of information that were shared at the Banquet this past Saturday. With the rules meetings on the horizon, that should also open up plans as to who will be racing what in the 2012 season. The year is not over yet, therefore we will be rolling out Year in Review pieces on Tim’s Corner as we inch closer to the holiday season and the flip of the calendar.
